That is an interesting set of events.
What I can say is that we believe the issue is not with the plugin we have developed, but with Word. We have seen similar things to this, and it appears that in certain modules plugins are deactivated, and while there is some ways of getting them active again is is literally a bigger pain in the bum than installing again.
Unfortunately the behavior of MS Word is up to that "PC Guy" Steve B.
I can still point out things you can do that will crash word every time, and have ever since version 2000. The problem is that Microsoft product cycle only addresses bugs and problems that get logged as complaints. They don't actually fix all known issues. Shame!
